Jordana, Software Developer

What are your primary responsibilities?
My main responsibilities are to work as a developer on my team. As well, I also assist in ensuring that the development process runs smoothly and facilitating communication of issues between the various parties involved in a project.

What languages/tools/resources do you use to accomplish these tasks?
I use primarily Perl on Komodo Edit to code, Subversion as a repository, and currently am using a Java emulator to test thin client functionalities. I have also used CSS and HTML, Firebug and JavaScript to program and test web tools.

What is a ‘typical’ day like for you?
A typical day for me starts off by eating breakfast! Then I do a daily stand-up meeting with my scrum group to get updates on what everyone did yesterday and will do in the current day. After that, I spend my day working on project tasks and answering questions by various parties involved in my project. Most of my meetings involve the particular project I am working on, and I work closely with the QA members of my team, as well as the PJM and PDM teams.

How did you find out about your position?
I found the posting online and was recruited by a recruiting agency.

What was the interview process like?
The interview process for airG was the longest interview I've ever had – over 3 hours! I did the entire process at once as I was visiting from out of town: HR interview, technical interview, and technical test. It was certainly a test of stamina, but worth it!

What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I have a 'second job' outside of work, which is that I am very involved in blogging. I run my own fashion/beauty blog and I write for two other blogs: one is concerned with multiculturalism and cultural events in Canada, and the other is for a local software company where I write articles about social media and technology news. If you're interested to know more, feel free to email me!

Other than blogging, I also enjoy jogging, yoga, trying to cook, snowboarding, travel, and sleeping.

What I like most about my job.
My favourite thing about my job is the job environment and working with the people on my team. I also like being able to work on a product and to see how the work I'm doing really affects the final result and it is satisfying to me to see a job to its completion. As well, I like how the people at airG value a work-life balance, which to me is very important to maintain.
